Typically involves two or more surgical stages :
  • Stage 1 (Age 6-10) : Costal cartilage (rib cartilage) is harvested and sculpted to form the basic ear framework inserted in a skin pocket. This stage is often performed when the child's ear and rib cage have grown sufficiently.
  • Stage 2,3,4 (4-6 months apart after Stage 1) : The sculpted cartilage framework is elevated to mimic a natural appearing outward projecting auricle. Additional touch ups are done to the overlying skin and the framework to create a natural appearance.
